In the election for the 2026-27 session of the Supreme Court Bar Association, A.M. Mahbub Uddin Khokon, a candidate supported by the BNP panel, has been elected President. Mohammad Ali from the same panel has been elected Secretary.
The results were announced around 2 AM on Thursday (May 14) by Justice Miftah Uddin Chowdhury, convener of the election sub-committee.
Out of 14 posts in the election, the BNP-backed panel secured victory in 13. The Jamaat-backed panel won one post. A total of 4,048 votes were cast in the two-day election.
The winners from the BNP-backed panel include Barrister A.M. Mahbub Uddin Khokon as President, Md. Magfur Rahman Sheikh and Md. Shahjahan for the two Vice-President posts, Mohammad Ali as Secretary, Md. Ziaur Rahman as Treasurer, and Maksud Ullah and Mohammad Shamsul Islam Mukul for the two Assistant Secretary posts.
For the member posts, H.M. Sanjid Siddiki, A.K.M. Azad Hossain, Md. Kabir Hossain, Md. Tipu Sultan, Md. Zia Uddin Mia, and Wahid Afroze Chowdhury were victorious. Md. Azim Uddin Patwari from the Jamaat-backed panel won one of the seven member posts.
Voting took place at the Supreme Court Bar Association Auditorium on May 13 and 14, starting at 10 AM, with a one-hour break at noon, and continuing until 5 PM.
